Definition

Visual adaptation and the ability of the eyeball to adapt to the different levels of luminance of light intensity emitted by a source by its apparent surface. Light intensity is expressed in nits. 1 nt = 1 candela per m².

Medical technique

The candela (measured in candela per square metre), in physics, is the unit of light intensity which is the symbol cd. This is provided that this light intensity, in a direction given from a source emits monochromatic radiation of frequency 540.10¹² Hz with an energy intensity in that direction of 1/683 watt per steradian.
