Tetanus vaccination

Posted by: Foster Luxmore  |  Category: Encyclopedia»V  |  Views: 0

Definition

Tetanus toxoid, administered vaccine from three months, for which there is no contraindication, and which must be kept in the fridge between + 2 ° to + 8 ° centigrade consists of toxins (toxic substances from the microbe of tetanus) détoxifiées which is rendered non-dangerous for the organization by formalin and then purified. The tetanus vaccine immunity appears from the second injection and lasts about 10 years more or less depending on the individual, and after the first reminder.

Medical technique

The dose of tetanus before the age of 18 months is the following. It is first necessary to conduct a subcutaneous or intramuscular injection and a second injection a month later, a third injection a month later, recalled two years after the third injection and to finish, every five years, new, and this until adulthood. If one wishes to make a preventive vaccination in adults which has been insufficiently vaccinated or poorly immunized it required two under skin or intramuscular injections a month apart and then a recall 6 to 12 months after the second injection. Every 10 years it is necessary to perform subsequent reminders. Risk of tetanus is also necessary to later recall. For a suspicious wound that is likely to become tétanigène, the course is as follows.

  • If an individual has been vaccinated and had all of its reminders regularly, it is not necessary to perform supplementary immunization.
  • If an individual has been vaccinated and had a reminder between 5 and 10 years, just before, then it is necessary to perform a simple reminder.
  • If an individual has been vaccinated once but had its successive recalls then it is necessary to proceed to a booster dose associated with injection of immunoglobulins (antibodies) against tetanus (tetanus) but to a different location of the body.
  • Of course if a subject has never been vaccinated it is necessary to him tetanus immune globulin and quickly begin tetanus vaccination.

The adverse effects of tetanus are (non-exhaustive list):

  • Appearance of nodules (more or less large sizes) to the place where the vaccine is injected
  • Hyperthermia (fever moderate)
  • Sometimes the patient has a certain awareness (more or less intense reactions) vaccine essentially when the reminders are too frequent.
