Ulm (ddp). The rampant among children overweight can effectively counteract with education and movement. A study of physicians of University Hospital Ulm 1037 Zweitklässlern from 34 primary schools comes to this conclusion. Some overweight students dealt in lessons for a year with the topics of movement, food and media consumption. In addition, they took part in small motion units. The examination showed that 16.8 percent of boys and 17.4 percent of girls were overweight according to definition of the so-called international obesity task force before the end of the first class. Compared to Ulm school 30 years ago, there were four times as many children with a higher fat mass. Children from a migrant background whose parents had a low level of education are particularly vulnerable to obesity: from them had 27 percent to much Bacon on the ribs at the entry examination. A part of the children, the so-called «intervention group», received as a result one year relevant education and motion units: the daily movement period was increased, reduces the time before the screen media. Also was better attention to the nutrition of children, for example, they drank less sugary drinks. At the beginning of the 3rd class, 964 of the children were studied again. It was revealed that the fat mass of the children of the intervention group compared to the control group increased less in the same period. Now, further analysis on the effects on health and behavior of children, as well as their sporting and academic achievements should follow.
