Sleep helps consolidate learning, according to researchers

Posted by: Chanelle Turns  |  Category: News  |  Views: 0

-The brain during sleep replays the events of the day, according to the findings of the researchers of the laboratory of Physiology of perception and action of the CNRS and the France College, and the University of Amsterdam. They discovered that information consolidated by this bias are those that are most useful in decision-making. These results are published on the website of the journal Nature Neuroscience.
During sleep, the neurons continue to operate at levels comparable to those observed during the awakening. The brain unconsciously rearranges the memory so that it is stabilized and it stores the information.

Researchers CNRS, the France College and the University of Amsterdam have learned to rats to find rewards in a maze, then they have studied the brain of these rodents during sleep.

The action of neurons similar to that observed in learning. But not all parts of the experience are replayed by the brain.

The active neurons at the time of decision, and especially from the point where the animal has learned and understood the task, reactivate during sleep.

The researchers conclude that all the information are not consolidated in the same way: only the most relevant are retained. This could improve scientific knowledge for neuronal degeneration, as for Alzheimer’s disease. “Next”.
