More youthful Germany: birth rate increased slightly

Rostock (dapd). Demographers have revised significantly upwards the official birth rate in Germany. The current average is about in 1.6 children per woman, which relates to both East and West Germany, Michaela Kreyenfeld said of the Max Planck Institute for demographic research on Monday in Rostock. A value of 1.46 children per woman in the East and 1.39 in the West was considered so far. Germany still lagging behind in Europe but also with 1.6 children per woman.

So far, the final number of children has been underestimated, because women further postpone the children’s plan, as the Demografin said.
