MESTACINE is an antibiotic of the minocyclines of the Wyeth-Lederle lab. For specialists is tetracyclines semi synthetic digestive absorption of 90 to 100% with a plasma half-life of 12 to 24 hours.

Indications
Minocycline property to concentrate in the saliva. This antibiotic is used to treat individuals with germs after meningococcal infection.
Genital infections (chlamydia, gonococcus, syphilis) and with other diseases (borreliosis, brucellosis, rickettsiose, pasteurellosis, yersiniosis), respiratory infections (Mycoplasma, psittacosis, fever q, pneumococcus, beta hemolytic Streptococcus) leptospirosis, intestinal amoebiasis (in combination with metronidazole), cholera, certain disorders of the small intestine, the access of malaria (in association quinine) and Acne Vulgaris (in low doses in extended treatment) are to the tetracyclines.

Dosage
Adult: 200 mg / day.
Children over eight years of 4 mg / kg / day.

Contraindications
Allergy to the tetracyclines.
In the child of less than eight years there is a risk of disorders of osteogenesis (bone making) and staining permanent teeth.
Infringement of renal (kidney) and risk of exacerbation of renal failure.

Adverse effects

Comment
Tetracyclines should be swallowed with water only. Absorption of milk and products containing any dairy products as antacids, iron salts and calcium reduce the absorption of tetracyclines by the body.
Individuals suffering from renal failure must reduce the dosage (amount of medication taken).
During the treatment should be avoided exposure to the Sun because there is a risk of photosensitization tetracyclines.
Expired tetracycline-containing drugs are likely to cause impairment of kidney (of type Fanconi) associated with lesions of the skin (lupus erythematosus).
In the presence of hyperthyroidism administration of tetracycline should be cautious.
In the presence of a duodenal ulcer and myasthenia gravis tetracyclines may be discouraged.
Tetracyclines are powerful drugs which should not be used for small infections. Indeed, there is a risk of occurrence of resistant strains.
