Melanoma: researchers unveil the mechanisms responsible for the failure of chemotherapy

-Inserm researchers have highlighted some of the mechanisms of the failure of most chemotherapy anti-mélanome. Published on the site of the journal Genes & Development, Tuesday, June 7, their work could contribute to the development of new more effective therapies to treat this type of skin cancer and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Malignant Melanoma is one of only cancers of the skin will never fully heal. In General, even the chemotherapeutic drugs have healing incomplete, often followed by fatal recurrence.
In detail, the chemotherapeutic drugs do not kill completeness of melanoma cells. Those who survive can still enter this program in all of normal cells to prevent the proliferation in senescence, “genetically unstable” cells, produce tumors.
In fact, senescence could become a very interesting therapeutic strategy. However, Inserm researchers have shown that it could actually be linked to the failure of melanoma.
Scientists show that melanoma cells become senescent when they are exposed to chemotherapy drugs, manufacturer a secretome pro-invasive and pro-tumorigenic features. Cancer cells are thus more difficult to remove, explaining the failure of chemotherapy anti-mélanome.
Researchers should now highlight the composition and functioning of the different actors of the secretome to develop new targets for therapeutic interventions more effective. “Next”.
