Legionella: Another death in Spain

Huelva (CNN) – the series of deaths in connection with the Legionella in Spain do not tear off. According to press reports on Wednesday, a cancer patient in a hospital in Huelva in the South of the country died after an infection with Legionella bacteria. The hospital said the death was caused directly by the disease. But a spokesman conceded that the State of the 63-Jährigen have deteriorated due to the infection. In the past three weeks seven people had died in Spain of Legionella, including a British tourist on the Costa Dorada and two patients in a hospital in the northern Spanish Pamplona. Spain is an industrial country, where the life-threatening disease most frequently breaks out, according to experts. Only in July, the city of Murcia, Southeast Spain, Germany had experienced the world’s largest epidemic of infection. At that time, 805 people treated with pneumonia, 342 of them could be proved the Legionella. Four patients died. Suffering is a bacteria infection, which can be fatal in elderly or debilitated patients. The disease is caused by inhalation of Legionella, which proliferate in lukewarm water or air conditioners.
