Pummelige little boys come Munich (netdoktor.de) – often late puberty. This is the conclusion reached US researchers in the framework of a long-term study, now published in the journal “Archives of Pediatrics and adolescent medicine” (ArchPediatrAdolescMed. 2010;164(2):1-6).)

Unlike girls a higher body fat percentage prematurely catapulted into puberty, are boys that overweight often in early and Middle childhood, late bloomer. “This is the first long-term study, which examines the relationship between body weight and development of boys,” explains study leader Joyce M. Lee of the University of Michigan.

For its investigation, scientists evaluated from the data of 401 boys from diverse social backgrounds from ten regions of the US. The children were born in 1991. Between the second and twelfth year of life, the body size and weight of the children were measured regularly.

“It showed that only seven percent late pubertierten of the slim boy, of the overweight but twice as many, 14 percent namely.”"Our results help to understand how gender differences affect the physiological processes in puberty,” explains Lee. The results are particularly important in view of the increasing obesity in children.(cf)
