Hartz IV: FDP wants to pay grant for contraceptive pill

Posted by: Keiko Resper  |  Category: News  |  Views: 2

Schwerin (ddp). The FDP Bundestag group in the Schwerin State Parliament wants young «Hartz IV»-Empfängerinnen pay an allowance for the contraceptive pill. Thus, we should to reduce the number of abortions which is particularly high in the age group of 20-25 Ralf Grabow FDP social expert said on Thursday in Schwerin. Women who were dependent on social assistance, could not afford often contraceptives. Which have means that they are unintentionally pregnant and therefore more often abtrieben. An application for funding is intended to introduce in two weeks in the Landtag. The WASG signaled approval already, the CDU and SPD want to reject the project. Of the total 3460 abortions of last year was 3160 to needy women, where the intervention was ultimately refunded by the State Office of health and Social Affairs. That cost the State 2006 EUR 1.1 million, Grabow said. The operation was paid for 861 women alone in the age group of 20-25. Obstetricians and gynecologists and the Rostock Diacony had beaten already alarm, that young patients in need of money no longer prescribe the pill could the social expert further said. The FDP wants to achieve that needy women between 20 and 25 year grant 50 euro for the pill. Which cover about half of the annual cost, Grabow said. 20 Years of age, women already received subsidies for contraceptives over the funds. It also involves the health of young women. Every abortion can have health consequences. The Group of the WASG already signaled support for the FDP’s proposal. A practical solution must be found in the interest of the women concerned, said Irene Müller, social policy spokesperson of the group. The SPD BUNDESTAG group, however, wants to vote against the project. With aid of €50, you have no effect on a pregnancy, Jörg Heydorn social expert said. To help the women from the financial emergency should rather to reflect on an increase in the cost of the RuleSet. The CDU also criticized the proposal as «disabled», to reduce the already declining number of abortions. More should be invested in the primary labour market economy, in child care, a group spokesman said.
