In Germany, Hannover (CNN) – the number of artificial inseminations in the test tube has halved since the health care reform. The intervention decreased from 100 000 in 2003 to around 50 000 this year, reproductive medicine reported Thursday at a Congress in Hanover. Couples with unmet fertility need to since the beginning of the year typically half of the cost of treatment of fertilisation in a test tube (in vitro-fertilisation) pay for itself. The number of artificial inseminations in the womb (insemination) declined strongly according to the Federation of reproductive medical centres of less. Because often several attempts are being made for a fertilization in a test tube, couples often pay some thousand euros. Any attempt is the chance to be mother, about 30 percent, said Georg Wilke, Chairman of the Association of Reproduktionsmedizinischer centres in Lower Saxony and Bremen. Due to the decline of the intervention to the test-tube fertilization, several thousand children of less in Germany are born according to the Hildesheim physician Wilke. A total 13 854 children in Germany have come to a preliminary evaluation of the year 2003 by means of artificial insemination to the world, just under two percent of total 706 721 live-born children of last year. Drillingsgeburten are a special risk of test-tube befruchtungen, as usually several fertilised ova into the uterus. In in vitro fertilization, egg cells taken from the woman and fertilized in a vessel with the sperm of the man. Resulting embryos are carried back into the womb and should lead to a pregnancy. There are about 120 medical centers for virto fertilization in Germany. Up to Friday about 400 doctors and biologists engaged in Hanover the developments in in vitro fertilization.
