Food supplements under surveillance

-Agence française de sécurité sanitaire aliments (AFSSA) announces the launch of a national food supplements vigilance device this Thursday, October 29. In the latter case, fixed by a decree of application, should be put in place during the first half of 2010. The goal: better identify adverse events related to their consumption.
This device of vigilance concerning “novel foods, food supplements, food subject to addition of substances with nutritional or physiological purpose and products intended for particular nutritional”.

Health professionals will be involved via statements on adverse events observed in patients consuming dietary supplements. AFSSA said that these statements will be anonymous for patients.
