Berlin–in the brain there are apparently single neurons, specialising in the detection of happy and sad faces. Images without emotional content they not respond on the other hand. According to a report in the daily newspaper “Die Welt” researchers of the University of Iowa found this in patients where they had implanted measurement electrodes in the brain. Thus, the scientists studied the brain activity in detail while the subjects saw images of people with different facial expressions.
