ERCEFURYL Nifuroxazide in capsules 100 mg, 200 mg and oral suspension in 90 ml with spoon-measurement bottle of 5 ml. Action. This drug was withdrawn from trade.
The nifuroxazide belongs to the family of nitrofurans and acts locally on bacteria of intestinal diseases.

Indications
• Treatment of benign acute diarrhoea whose origin is infectious. This drug should not be used for all diarrhoea.
• Complement of rehydration in the treatment of acute diarrhea presumed bacterial origin. This type of molecule is ineffective in viral diarrhoea as for example in rotavirus diarrhea.

Dosage
Adult: 1 capsule 4 times per day.
The duration of treatment should not exceed 3 days except different medical opinion.

Contraindications
• History of allergy to a family of nitrofurans antiseptic
• Premature
• Newborn

Adverse effects
• Skin rash

Precautions in use
If purulent or bloody stools, it is necessary to a stool and possibly use a specific antibacterial.
Alcohol consumption is sometimes at the origin of antabuse-like effects.

Diarrhea may be the cause of dehydration (significant water loss) essentially in the elderly and infants. This loss of water must be offset by the supply of sufficiently salty and sugary drinks. Indeed, poorly treated diarrhea may be the cause of fatigue, confusion, a severe low blood pressure, or even more.
Some diarrhea does not require the use of intestinal antiseptics. A few simple dietary measures are sufficient: light food, rice water, Apple compote. Fruit juices, the veggies and Greens must be excluded.
