Ebola: Vaccine protects mice 100-percent

Washington (CNN) – A test vaccine for the first time provides a 100% protection against the deadly Ebola virus in Vista. He has been tested so far only in mice, proved in the laboratory animals but very effective, and could pave the way for a vaccination in humans. SINA Bavari and colleagues from the Research Institute of infectious diseases of the US military in Frederick (US State of Maryland) will present their study on Tuesday in the “proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” (PNAS). The Ebola virus causes severe internal bleeding and kills between 70 and 80 percent of all people infected. The team used a technology that was already been tested in other pathogens such as the cancer of causing papillomavirus or Aidserreger HIV. It focuses on the two proteins of the viral envelope. The so-called ‘ virus like particles ‘ (virus-like particles or VLP) the genetic material to reproduce is missing. This means that they can not multiply and are therefore also not infectious. However, researchers managed to mobilize the body’s defences of the rodents to the dangerous virus by injection of proteins. «Double immunity» the vaccine gave the animals by activation of T cells and B cells, explain Bavari and colleagues in the PNAS. Both immune reactions are necessary to provide full protection against the Ebola virus. Both the Marburg virus and the Ebola virus among the Filoviren, which can cause hemorrhagic fever in humans and other primates, and in most cases lead to death. While you have previous Ebola outbreaks can limit still geographically, writes the team at the Research Institute of the army. It should be but to fear, that could be terrorists of the deadly pathogen once operated for a bioterrorist attacks and spread it far beyond the borders of the African regions.
