-The first association devoted to the limitation of the rate of sodium in the diet was officially presented, Thursday 21 October, under the name of “Sodium food: Limitons the rate” (SALT). This group of experts has for primary objective to encourage and facilitate all actions to reduce the amount of salt consumed by the French, including the vulnerable and disadvantaged.
The SALT group will participate including the development of scientific work and the realization of information and prevention tools to make as many discover the effects of dietary sodium on health. This new association also aims to “educate consumers and to convince decision makers to adopt measures clear and useful to help producers to limit the amount of sodium that we absorb every day”.
Consisting of experts from medicine, food, research and communication, the association will also seek to identify the most effective means to limit salt in the diet, and reduce its adverse health effects.
SALT should be composed of three committees: one dedicated to consumption, a second to the regulation and a third to nutrition.
The expert group ensures that it will interfere with the institutions responsible for the actions implemented under the third component of the program National Nutrition and health and the National Plan for food (ANP).
