Definition
Area of the brain involving both hemispheres stroke and consists of white matter (large commissure).
Anatomy
This commissure is transversely and is located at the bottom of the hemispheres (between the 2 hemispheres) sulcus above the lateral ventricles (small cavities in the brain and cerebrospinal fluid). The Corpus Callosum is constituted by transverse fibers that connect the two hemispheres. The Corpus Callosum is made up of three parts:
- An anterior (forward) form curved, also called knee
- A trunk
- A posterior (back) of rhombus shape: the splénium, also known as seam.
Physiology
The Corpus Callosum allows each cerebral hemisphere to exercise permanently an action either excitatory, inhibitory (depending on the situation) on the opposite cerebral hemisphere is.
Symptoms
The achievement of the Corpus Callosum translates:
- Ataxia (loss of coordination of movements)
- Loss of memory
- Loss of balance with a tendency to fall backwards
