Cannabis could help fight prostate cancer

-Several chemical substances contained in the cannabis plant would prevent prostate cancer cells to multiply, found a team of Spanish researchers, whose work was published on 21 August in the British Journal of Cancer.
Cancer cells grown in the laboratory were blocked by (methanandamide and JWH – 015), cannabinoids which have also served to reduce the size of tumours in mice.

According to the researchers, substances block the CB2 receptors on the surface of the cancerous tissue, which prevents the division and the growth of cancer cells. This discovery could be useful for prostate cancers do not respond to hormonal treatments.

Professor Ines Diaz-Laviada, the University of Alcala of Madrid, senior author of the study, said that “our research shows that there are areas in prostate cancer cells that can recognize and respond to the cannabis chemicals called cannabinoids”. And note that these chemical substances “could become a target for new research for potential treatment of cancer of the prostate”.

If the researchers are hopeful, they point out that it will be long before the first clinical trials.

Patients must not be smoking cannabis in the hope of cure, as not only the use of this drug has side effects, but especially the studied substances were synthetic. “Next”.
