Bisphenol A: the environmental health network calls for the prohibition in all food containers

Posted by: Sam Zeger  |  Category: News  |  Views: 4

-Welcoming the decision of the European Commission committed, November 19, to ban baby bottles based on bisphenol A (BPA), environmental health (RES) network calls, Monday 22 November, the prohibition of the chemical compound in all food containers. According to the RES must also eliminate maternal contamination by food, and by boxes of canned food linings.
While one of the spokespersons of the Commission on European, Frédéric Vincent, announced in an interview with the website FoodProductionDaily.com that the Commission intended to ban baby bottles BPA-based, the Seer asks, Monday 22 November, a total prohibition of the chemical in food containers, however commending the position taken by Brussels.
“This should obviously be completed, no one would understand that it cares about infants fed via a bottle to the BPA, but not those which are fed to the womb then that breast milk is equally contaminated”, explains the RES in a news release.
The decision of the European Commission take the opposite of recent reports published by the European authority (EFSA) food safety. Indeed, the latter announced, last October, that she could not identify any new evidence to reconsider daily intake (TDI) tolerable existing for Bisphenol A (BPA), currently set at 0, 05 mg/kg of body weight.
In France, the Parliament voted unanimously on June 23, the suspension of the manufacturing, import, export and the placing on the market of baby bottles designed based on bisphenol a session in the National Assembly. Adopted by the Senate on March 24, the text has also introduced in the Grenelle 2 project. Nevertheless, the amendment of the MP Gérard Bapt to extend the ban to all food containers was rejected by the Government.
The BPA is a chemical compound of synthesis used in the manufacture of plastics polycarbonate, including materials in contact with food. Many studies have revealed that the heating high-temperature containers and utensils including baby bottles, BPA-based, promotes the migration of the chemical in foods. “Next”.
