AOK wants to help patients with “Medical damage”

Kiel (dpa/lno) – with a special consulting services, the AOK Schleswig-Holstein will actively help their insured «Medical damage». The new «AOK Department medical damage» is to fill in health disorders due to a faulty medical or non-medical treatment, a lack of care or an incorrect drug supply. «The aim is to support our policyholders in maintaining their rights relating to possible damage claims in this difficult situation,», AOK CEO Peter Buschmann, at the launch of the project led by Holger Thomsen said on Tuesday in Kiel. Experts go from nationwide each year up to 400 000 cases; about 30 000 patients are demanding damages. On suspicion of a «medical damage» led and coordinated the AOK external expertise to their customers or manufactures advice free of charge. The specialist in forensic medicine Thomsen will work closely with the medical service of health insurance. AOK with non-judicial or legal steps will set the determination of a «medical damage», to assist the customers in the pursuit of their rights.
