Frankfurt/Main (ddp). In the fight against AIDS, doctors and scientists want to go new ways. Previous strategies against the spread of the immune deficiency disease would have to be reconsidered, the President says the Austrian AIDS society, Brigitte Smith, on Wednesday in Frankfurt am Main. Increasing new infections, complex therapies with their side effects, and an increasing number of patients with resistant viruses made it necessary to step up the search for new approaches in the fight against AIDS. Patients would be now also older than in the past and also co diseases such as diabetes develop, Smith emphasized in advance of the third German Austrian AIDS Congress (DÖAK). The Congress is under the motto «Anders think». Also the US scientist Robert Gallo is traveled to the DÖAK, who is known as co-discoverer of HIV.
